Week 5
Well I need to preface this once again with the Elder Torgerson quote of the week. We were making jokes about how there were so many of us going to Montevideo Uruguay that together we were going to translate the city, as missionaries joke about from time to time. Then Elder Torgerson just said "I don´t think my Mom would like it if I got translated, at least without taking a picture first." That made me think of you Mom. That sounds just like you. Haha!
Alright in all honesty I really don´t have a lot to send in this email because most of what I've been doing has been a lot of the same stuff, I just can´t wait because the next time I email you guys I´ll be in Uruguay!!!
Here´s a fun Proselyting Part 2 story though. It started out super great with some guy pulling a knife on our older Latino companion and then yelling that he wanted to kill the Gringos. Nothing actually happened, but that was a nice start to the day. Afterwards we did a lot of door contacting and we got 7 possible investigators, although our missionary we were with said that probably at least half of those numbers are fake. Sad. But finally right near the end of the day, something really cool happened. We met this Venezuelan man on the street named Oliver and HE stopped US and said that he wanted to go to our church and that he needed the address and time and such. I never thought that would ever happen while I was here, but I was definitely ok with it.
Today on Sunday during District Meeting the Hermanas were talking about Hope and I honestly have zero memory about how we got to this scripture but someone read the scripture in Jacob that says something like "Be wise, what can I say more?" And then someone quoted the office and a conversation between Michael and Dwight where Michael says "What is the best advice I have given you?" and Dwight answers "Don´t be an idiot. Every time I´m about to do something, I ask myself, would an idiot do that thing. If the answer is yes, I don´t do that thing." At first I just thought it was really funny but then I realized how the two together are very applicable. We have the restored gospel on the earth, we know what we are supposed to do, so whenever we do things we need to be thinking, would a member of Christ´s true church do this thing. Then we need to do all the things that we answered yes to and avoid all of the things that we answered no to. Of course, easier said than done, but really, the Gospel is simple and I can´t wait to teach it to the people of Uruguay. Talk to you next week from the best mission in the world!
-Elder Martin
