Week 8 - Second week in Uruguay

Well this has been a Hand of God filled week. Difference?  Not that it wasn't there before but that I am now starting to look for it more. With the 6-week attribute of Christ goal I had, I am now doing humility, and one of my more specific goals was what President Eyring said in his talk to every day write down an event that was the Hand of God in your life. So here goes.

First of all, we finally found an investigator from the last companionship named Carmen. She's been baptized as a Catholic and a Baptist and her most recent concern was not really Priesthood authority to baptize but more how we could call all other churches wrong and that it was just us that was right and others were just bad. Completely Spirit-given were a couple ideas from the talk that I literally have no clue who wrote that said a lot of things along the lines of "Every church has good stuff, but come and let us give you more. Add on to what you have." Or something of that nature. She's progressing a little better now, but still has trouble coming to church, but its fine, we'll get her there.

A contact from the old companionship who we were told were very promising but very hard to find at home, well we finally managed to find them, and they are promising. John was so excited to get a Book of Mormon that after his wife (or person he's living with) was done reading something he'd demand his book back and protect it like it was a baby. We told them to read 3 Nephi 11 before our next visit and he said "Of course, and then after I'm going to start from the beginning and get as far as I can." We had another appointment set up with them this last week but then Sai, John's wife gave birth to their baby so we haven't been able to find them again, but we will.

We had another investigator who was very capo (a stud), as we were told by the old companionship, Nahuel, but our first time visiting him he told us he read and prayed and felt nothing and didn't want any more visits. I was kind of upset, and in a personal prayer I asked that we'd be able to find another investigator to make up the loss a little bit. The next day we found another kid named Nahuel who is also very interested. Coincidence? I think not.

Lastly, the story of Olazabal. We have a Church Headquarters reference for someone that lives on this street. We have tried to find this lady 5 times now but she is never home apparently. Eventually we had some extra time so we decided to contact the entire street. It started out awful. Not only were we rejected, but this was honestly the first time I had been rejected harshly, generally everyone is at least kind in their rejections, but everyone on this street had a bone to pick with existence it seemed like. After one particularly angry atheist I remember being fed up with it. I had to go to the bathroom at the chapel just around the corner, people were angry, I just wasn't having it. I decided though to just finish the street with full hope that these last 3 houses would be better. And all 3 of them are very promising contacts now that we will visit this week.

Well, these are the more exciting stories of the week, there are of course others but slightly less significant and my "o" key on this keyboard does not work very well and is starting to make me very annoyed so that's all for now.

Nos vemos

Elder Martin

P.S. - I forgot something cool that I forgot to write on my email card!!!!
So Elder Hernandez and I got to travel back to his old area for a baptism of a convert that he taught and I had the opportunity to baptize her because her daughter only trusted Elder Hernandez. I have pictures of it that I can forward soon from Elder Hernandez. It was really interesting though because it took me forever to learn her entire name and I was stepping down into the font I realized that there wasn't a card with the words of the baptism in Spanish so I had to quickly learn that. All in all though it was a good experience, but mainly I can't wait to get more of my own.

Bryant forgot his camera again but luckily his companion had his and he used some of his pics to send me this week!  Yay, finally!
