Week 63 - The Week of Invitations
Well, this week has been quite good for us! The area continues to progress slowly but surely. We are being very blessed now!
This week, on Wednesday, we invited both C. and M. to be baptized; C. for the 21st of September and M. for the 28th. They both accepted without a problem. At the same time though, we got thinking about it later and we're probably going to end up pushing both baptisms back a week to be able to have time to teach everything calmly without any rush, and doubly make sure that they understand everything.
We had plans for a lot of people to come to church this week, but sometimes not all of our plans come through. One man we're teaching had to take his daughter to Montevideo because she was sick and they needed better medical attention; then afterwards, J., K., Hna. V. and M. all slept in. Luckily though, today in our Zone meeting we talked about the importance of patience and understanding and really getting it through our heads how hard it must be to change habits super quickly like that. C. still came though like always! He is super diligent in coming to church. He's been coming every week without fail for the past 5 weeks now and he really enjoys it and feels good in the chapel!
This week was a little rougher for us on finding new people to teach, but the new people we did find seem much more interested than others I've talked to in past weeks, especially one guy, J., that has gone to church before and is good friends with the Elders Quorum President.
This Sunday I gave a talk in church about Spiritual Gifts and I shared Moroni 10:8 as one of the scriptures that, paraphrasing, advises us that we shouldn't deny spiritual gifts. I thought of 4 different meanings of denying spiritual gifts.
1. Flat out not believing in them.
2. Saying that we personally do not have spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 7:7)
3. Failing to use our spiritual gifts (Matthew 5:14-16)
4. Not attempting to develop other gifts. (1 Cor. 14:1)
May we all live worthy of the Holy Ghost and strive to develop and use our gifts to bless the lives of others!
I love you all! Nos vemos!
-Elder Martin
